Jodie Goddard

Psychotherapist

Jodie is a warm, compassionate and motivated counsellor, with a Masters degree in Counselling (QUT). She understands the courage it takes to seek counselling, to work through life’s difficulties, such as: crisis, significant life transitions, or trauma. Jodie believes that these challenges can be worked through relationally, therefore she aims to create a space that is safe, and receptive to your goals and pace. She uses evidence-based approaches that facilitate both helpful skills and strategies, whilst further uncovering and attending to your core emotional and attachment needs. Jodie’s professional background has been working in human services: in aged care, disability and mental health practice for the last eight years. Her experience in these areas drives her passion to support clients facing challenges due to complex social systems, pathologizing approaches and dominant societal beliefs. She assists individuals, couples and families to make meaning of their lives, reclaim their unique story and reconstruct positive relationships.

Jodie’s primary therapeutic approach is Emotionally Focussed Therapy (EFT). She is currently completing her certification as an Emotion Focussed Therapist, through the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focussed Therapy. Emotionally Focussed Therapy utilises the science of adult attachment in a relational and non-pathologizing way to understand the dysfunction and health in all bonds and relationships. This approach believes that as human beings we are inherently relational, social and wired for bonding with others. Jodie gently guides you through stages and steps to understand your interaction cycles, attachment needs and underlying emotions to create more fulfilling relationships with self and others.

EFT is considered the gold standard for empirically validated intervention with couples. However, it is also an effective approach with individuals, particularly attending to depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress. And families when repairing bonds.
